Today, querying the massive amounts of images available in online databases such as Instagram can be a time-consuming experience. Researchers from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and the University College London, have developed a new tool that generates image queries based on a geometric description of objects in spatial relationships with potential applications in computer graphics, computer vision and automated object classification.

Fourth-year computer science Ph.D. student Jinhui Xiong won the best paper award at this year’s 24th International Symposium on Vision, Modeling, and Visualization (VMV) 2019.

Jinhui Xiong is a Ph. D. candidate in the Computational Imaging Group (VCCIMAGING) under the supervision of Professor Wolfgang Heidrich at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Education and Early Career Jinhui Xiong obtained his bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in Hong Kong in 2015. Then, he joined KAUST and received his masters in Computer Science in 2017. During his bachelor study, he spent two years on CUDA programming for various projects in Dr. Jun Fan’s lab. Ibraheem Alhashim

Ibraheem Alhashim is a Remote Researcher working with Professor Peter Wonka. Education and Early Career Ibraheem Alhashim completed his B.Sc. with honors in Computer Science at the Portland State University in 2008, followed by his M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2011 under the supervision of Prof. Hao Zhang and his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Hao Zhang and Prof. Ghassan Hamarneh at Simon Fraser University in Canada. During both his Master and Ph.D., Alhashim was working at the GrUVi Lab at Simon Fraser University in Canada. Dr. Alhashim joined KAUST in 2017
